The machine check stopped the CPU load at 95 °C

Expected, nothing to fix

The CPU reached 95 °C during the check, so the check ended its CPU load early.

Why this happens

The check runs every core at full load for its CPU phase and watches the package temperature the whole time. If the temperature holds at 95 °C for several readings in a row, the phase ends there. Everything read up to that point is kept, and the comparison shows how long the load ran. It means the cooling could not keep up with a sustained full load on this machine as it is now.

What to do

  1. Clean the dust out of the CPU cooler and the case filters, and check that every fan spins.
  2. Check that the cooler is seated firmly; on a machine a few years old, dried-out thermal paste is a common cause.
  3. Run the check again afterwards and compare the two.
